Imran Khan takes oath as MNA

Imran Khan to take oath as MNA on 19th June 2013

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan has taken oath as the Member of the National Assembly.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who had defeated Khan from Lahore NA-122 in May 11 election, administered oath to the PTI chief.

Khan won three National Assembly seats from NA-1 Peshawar, NA-71 Mianwali and NA-56 Rawalpindi.

He vacated Mianwali and Peshawar seats and decided to keep NA 56- Rawalpindi.

According to senior journalists, covering the NA proceedings from press gallery, the PTI has yet not succeeded in making its mark in the lower house of the parliament and was missing ‘Kaptan’ in the presence of hardcore parliamentarians like Mehmood Khan Achakzai and others.

Khan felicitated Mian Nawaz Sharif for becoming the prime minister and vowed that he would speak in assembly not as an opposition member but a Pakistani citizen.

The PTI chief also criticized government decision to increase sales tax in the budget for the next fiscal year.

He, however, conceded that tax collection was the biggest problem of the country.

Imran Khan also urge the government and military leaders to build a strategy to halt US drone attacks in the country’s northwest. Khan said a comprehensive approach was needed, involving the army chief — widely seen as the most powerful man in a country ruled for more than half its life by the military.

“The prime minister, army chief and chief ministers should sit together and form a policy on drone attacks,” Khan told parliament.

“We have to make this war our war, and it cannot become our own war unless we stop drone attacks.”
